Paying attention to the topic of sustainability and convincing people to act sustainably. This is not only the goal of the European Sustainability Week 2022, which took place this year from September 20 – 26, but also a matter close to the heart of Kontron AIS.
This week gave us once more a perfect opportunity to provide our employees with new input and awareness on the topic of conserving resources and sustainability.
As part of a diverse theme week, exciting activities awaited us, such as an online lecture by the TU Dresden on the conditions of forests in Saxony, a digital cooking event with tips on food storage, and a workshop with sustainability tips and lifehacks from our colleagues.
The highlight of the sustainability week took place on Saturday: In glorious September sunshine, we lent a hand with our first tree planting initiative at the Talsperre Klingenberg. Here, a 1.2-hectare forest area had to be cleared after drought and bark beetle calamity in 2021. With the help of the Forest for Saxony Foundation, we planted 430 trees in one day, including Saxon silvers firs. By this, about 10% of the cleared area could be reforested.
The silver fir is a true hope for silviculture in climate change, as it is less susceptible to drought and at the same time storm resistant. We hope that these trees will grow into healthy forests that will provide an important habitat for wildlife and that future generations can enjoy.
Our employees did not only do a good deed, but they also spent a great family day in sunny fall weather – watch the video of our 2022 tree planting initiative!
